ARTIST STATEMENT I derive my emotions from experiences that have an impact on my sense of self. I release these emotions through the female form into photographic images. I use the female form to study how body language is affected by the mind’s state. Do the emotions become apparent, or are they translated from one language, the mind’s, to another, the body’s? I believe they are two different languages to be decoded. The mind’s language incorporates sensations internal to the body and reactions to the world translated by the mind. The exterior body can do two things: 1. Intend to communicate 2. Reveal emotions not yet acknowledged by the mind. By beginning with an emotional state, I hope to understand how the mind and body work with and against each other as two distinct presences within each of us. ccc Born Chicago, IL EDUCATION 2004 University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM: MFA in Art Photography 2003 VSUP, The School of Art Design and Architecture, Prague, Czech Republic 1997 Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY: BFA in Art Photography, Graduated Cum Laude 1996 Summer, Syracuse University, Visual Arts in Florence, Florence, Italy 1995 Summer, Columbia College, Chicago, ILart EXHIBITIONS 2007 "People Doing Strange Things With Electricity" 911 Media, Seattle, WA 2007 Venus Gallery, San Francisco, CA 2007 "Anima Rising" Advocate & Gochis Galleries, L.A.
